Eddie Howe’s Departure After a Successful Run
Howe has been at the club since 2021, guiding the Magpies through a period of remarkable progress fueled by significant investment. Under his management, Newcastle qualified twice for the Champions League after a two-decade absence and secured the League Cup in 2025. Despite these achievements, sources suggest Howe desires a break and plans to leave immediately, even after recently leading the team in preseason friendlies, including a 4-1 victory over Bristol City.
Matthias Jaissle Emerges as the Leading Candidate
The 38-year-old German coach, Matthias Jaissle, appears set to replace Howe. Jaissle gained recognition during his time at RB Salzburg before moving to Al-Ahli in Saudi Arabia in 2023. Although his contract with Al-Ahli runs until 2027, the transition to Newcastle seems feasible since both clubs share majority ownership under the Saudi Public Investment Fund (PIF).
