Mourinho’s first casualties

Raul Asencio and Franco Mastantuono have been informed their minutes will be “few and far between” in the coming campaign. Both have been urged to find exits, whether on loan or permanently, in search of the football they will not get under Mourinho.

They are not alone.

Eduardo Camavinga, once seen as a cornerstone of Madrid’s future, now finds himself on the wrong side of Mourinho’s plans. His status, long considered untouchable, suddenly looks fragile.

Camavinga pushed to the margins

According to Sergio Valentin, Mourinho has already sat down with Camavinga and delivered a blunt message: he will not be counted on during the 2026-27 season.

The hierarchy in midfield is clear. Aurelien Tchouameni, Federico Valverde and Bernardo Silva stand ahead of him in the pecking order. In Mourinho’s eyes, they are the ones to build around. Camavinga, at least for now, is not.

For a player of his age and profile, that means one thing – reduced to a supporting role, cameos, and long spells watching from the bench. For a club like Real Madrid, it also opens another door.

Club open to a sale, player refuses to move

Madrid would not be against cashing in. With Camavinga’s value high and the squad being reshaped, a sale this summer would make financial sense. The club is prepared to listen, prepared to negotiate, prepared to move on if the right offer lands.

But there is a problem for the boardroom: the player himself.

Despite the conversations, despite the warnings about limited playing time, multiple reports state that Camavinga has no intention of leaving Real Madrid this summer. None. He plans to stay, fight, and try to force his way back into the team, regardless of what Mourinho has laid out.

Madrid can welcome bids. They can push, suggest, and encourage. What they cannot do is force a transfer if Camavinga rejects every proposal that comes in.
