Milan Eye Zaniolo and Foden Amid Transfer Standoff
The summer stand-off between Nicolò Zaniolo and Udinese is turning into a slow-burn saga, and Milan are watching every twist with interest.
Udinese believed they had done enough. A new contract was put on the table, designed to secure their key attacker and silence any whispers of discontent. Instead, it has lit the fuse.
Zaniolo is understood to be unhappy with parts of the deal, with the structure of the bonuses a particular sticking point. While his teammates have already reported back and begun preparations for the new season, the 27-year-old has remained on holiday, sending in a medical certificate to justify his continued absence.
For Udinese, the patience clock is ticking. The club still hope to bring the matter back under control, but there is a growing sense that a line may soon be drawn. If the impasse holds, the Bianconeri are ready to move from negotiation to liquidation and place Zaniolo on the market.
Milan Ready to Pounce
That is exactly the scenario Milan are preparing for.
The Rossoneri are poised with an offer in the region of €15–20 million should Udinese give the green light to a sale. The interest is serious, not speculative. Zaniolo’s agent, Claudio Vigorelli, has already been seen at Milan’s headquarters, a sighting that underlines how advanced the conversations around the player’s future could quickly become.
If Zaniolo forces the issue and pushes for an exit, more Serie A clubs are expected to join the chase. Milan, though, have a clear tactical idea in mind. Coach Ruben Amorim wants a left-footed attacker to diversify his attacking options, add different angles of delivery, and give his front line a sharper edge. Zaniolo fits that brief.
But he is not the only one.
Foden on the Radar
Phil Foden is also on Milan’s list, a name that immediately shifts the conversation to a different financial level.
The England international could be available for around €50–60 million, but only if Manchester City bring in new, top-tier attacking options of their own. His future is tied to the domino effect at the Etihad.
Foden is coming off a mixed season by his own high standards: 10 goals and 7 assists across 50 matches is respectable, yet his influence waned in the final months of the campaign. For a player of his quality, that dip has opened the door to speculation. For a club like Milan, it represents opportunity.
Amorim’s desire for a left-footed attacker makes Foden an intriguing, if ambitious, target. The technical profile matches. The price tag and competition make it a far more complicated pursuit than Zaniolo.

They are currently behind Borussia Dortmund in the race for Konstantinos Karetsas, one of the most highly regarded young prospects in Europe in his role. At the same time, Atalanta are ahead in the push for Kerim Alajbegovic, another talent Milan have been tracking.
