Mason Mount to Miss Manchester United's Pre-Season Match Against Leeds

Mason Mount is set to sit out Manchester United’s next stop on their pre-season tour, with the midfielder expected to miss Wednesday’s meeting with Leeds United at Croke Park.

The 27-year-old has been one of United’s standout performers in the warm-up fixtures, driving play from the number eight position and dovetailing neatly with new signing Andrey Santos, who has operated just behind him. Mount’s sharpness and energy through those first three games had quickly made him a central figure in Michael Carrick’s evolving midfield.

That rhythm was checked in Gothenburg. Mount took a kick to the foot in the early stages of Saturday’s draw with Paris St-Germain and did not see out the first half. Carrick moved quickly, withdrawing him and stressing afterwards that the decision was precautionary rather than a response to anything more serious. Mount walked unaided to the team coach after the game, offering a reassuring sight for United staff and travelling supporters.

The optimism has been tempered over the last few days. Mount has not trained since the PSG match, and the club do not expect him to feature against Leeds in Dublin. United will instead be forced to look at alternative midfield combinations as Carrick fine-tunes his side heading into the final stretch of pre-season.

There is still uncertainty over the next step. It remains unclear whether Mount will be ready for United’s last pre-season outing, against Ruben Amorim’s AC Milan in Wroclaw on Saturday, a fixture that had been earmarked as a dress rehearsal for the competitive campaign.
