Marc Cucurella Confident Real Madrid Will Thrive Under Jose Mourinho

Marc Cucurella is optimistic about Real Madrid’s prospects this season after joining the club from Chelsea for £47.5 million. The Spanish full-back expressed excitement about working with Jose Mourinho, who recently returned to manage the team at Santiago Bernabeu.

Mourinho Brings Confidence to the Squad

In early training sessions, Cucurella has noticed a positive change brought by Mourinho’s arrival. Speaking to Real Madrid TV following his first day with the squad, he said the coach instills “a lot of confidence and naturalness.” He added that the team’s focus should be on playing their style and enjoying the game, aiming to win and have an outstanding year.

Childhood Dream Comes True

Despite his background at Barcelona’s La Masia academy, Cucurella could not resist the opportunity to join the 15-time European champions. After helping Spain win the World Cup and spending four years in England with Brighton and Chelsea, he called Real Madrid the pinnacle of football.

“As a kid starting out playing football, then having the opportunity to play for a club like this, it’s very hard to turn down,” Cucurella said. “I didn’t hesitate for a second when the chance arrived. I’ve witnessed those magical nights at the Bernabeu and all the Champions League triumphs. Being part of it is a big responsibility and a beautiful challenge.”

A Career Milestone and a Huge Responsibility

The 28-year-old defender made 163 appearances for Chelsea, winning the Conference League and Club World Cup in 2025 before moving to Madrid. He joins a star-studded recruitment effort that includes Bernardo Silva, Ibrahima Konate, and Denzel Dumfries. Cucurella understands the high standards expected at Madrid and sees his transfer as recognition of his dedication across clubs like Getafe and Eibar.

“It’s an honour – not many can say they’ve worn this jersey,” he said. “This club has a rich history, the biggest in Europe. Being here is a privilege, an honour, and a reward for all my hard work.”

Preparing for the Upcoming La Liga Season

Real Madrid’s preseason is entering a decisive phase as they gear up for the new campaign. Upcoming friendlies against Deportivo de A Coruna and Schalke will test Mourinho’s tactics and allow new signings to settle in.
