Manchester United have identified Lewis Hall as a prime solution to their left-sided future. Newcastle United, though, look ready for a long fight to keep him.
Transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano has doubled down on United’s interest in the 19-year-old, stressing that Hall is not a passing name on a scouting spreadsheet but a concrete target who has already been given the green light inside Old Trafford.
Romano said United “really appreciate” Hall and view him as “an ideal player” to add to their squad, underlining that the defender is “on the Manchester United list, for sure” and “internally approved” by the club’s hierarchy. The admiration is not new; according to Romano, United’s intent dates back to June and has not cooled.

Newcastle, buoyed by significant sales this summer, are in no mood to cash in on a player they see as part of their core. Romano pointed out that the club have already brought in “big money” from deals involving Sandro Tonali, Anthony Gordon and Bruno Guimaraes. Guimaraes, he added, is expected to join Arsenal, with the move “going in the right direction” as the two clubs work towards an agreement and the Brazilian pushing for the switch.
That outgoing traffic only hardens Newcastle’s stance on Hall. They “don’t want to sell” the defender and “want to keep” him, Romano stressed, describing that as the clear message coming out of St James’ Park.
United, for their part, are not hiding. They regard Hall as a top target and have already made contact to gauge the conditions of any potential deal. The admiration is real, the conversations have started, but there is a firm roadblock in black and white stripes.
