Galatasaray interest meets a brick wall

The Turkish champions have been circling. Journalist Suleyman Rodop claimed last week that Galatasaray were eyeing Fernandes as the marquee number 10 in their rebuild, with a quoted asking price of €50 million and a staggering net salary expectation of €20 million per year.

For a club that thrives on big nights and big names, the idea of dropping Fernandes in behind their striker was tempting. Talks, Rodop suggested, would be framed around that €50m figure.

But that’s where the fantasy collides with United’s reality.

TEAMtalk report that United have “no plans whatsoever” to sell their captain this summer. Internally, the message is the same: there will be no negotiation, no softening of the stance, and no encouragement for Galatasaray or anyone else.

Carrick’s catalyst

The firmness of that position makes sense when you track Fernandes’ last campaign.

Under Ruben Amorim in the first half of the season, he was asked to operate deeper, almost as a playmaking No. 8. He did the job, but the edges of his game were blunted.

Then Michael Carrick arrived. Fernandes was pushed back into his natural No. 10 role. The change was instant.

He finished the 2025/26 season with nine goals and 22 assists in 37 matches in all competitions, driving United back into the Champions League and re-establishing himself as the creative heartbeat of the side. At 31, he remains the man United look to when the game starts to fray and someone has to grab it.

Carrick knows it. The club knows it.

The manager has, according to the report, made it “clear” how much he enjoys working with Fernandes and expects him to be central again next season, both in Europe and in a renewed push for the Premier League title.

Contract power and dressing-room weight

United also hold the leverage. Fernandes is under contract until the summer of 2027, with an option for a further year. There is no ticking clock, no looming free transfer, no pressure to cash in.

Crucially, there is no agitation from the player’s side either. Sources indicate that Fernandes is not pushing for a move and is instead “keen on opening talks over a new contract” that would take him beyond his current deal.

Inside the club, the view is clear. Fernandes is seen as a long-term leader in the dressing room, a standard-setter whose creativity and personality knit together a squad still evolving under Carrick. His influence, on and off the pitch, has grown over the last two seasons, not faded.

The hierarchy are said to have “no intention” of entertaining offers that fall short of a record valuation, with the chances of him leaving described as “very, very slim”. The phrase that keeps coming back from those close to the situation is simple: it would take a “mammoth offer” to even make United pause.

Built around, not sold off

This is not a club looking to cash in on an ageing asset. It is a club choosing its cornerstone.

As United prepare for their return to the Champions League and talk quietly, but seriously, about a sustained Premier League title challenge, Fernandes is not a bargaining chip. He is the reference point.

Galatasaray can ask. Others may enquire. But for now, United’s answer is blunt and unwavering: Bruno Fernandes is staying, and the next phase of their project will be built with him at its centre, not in his absence.
