Lucy O’Brien Signs New Deal with Ipswich Town

Ipswich Town have moved to secure one of their own, tying down attacker Lucy O’Brien to a new contract that keeps her at Portman Road through the 2026/27 season.

The announcement, made on the club’s official website this afternoon, ends any uncertainty over the 22-year-old’s immediate future. Her previous deal was due to expire this summer; instead, she will continue a journey that began in the club’s academy and has never strayed from Suffolk.

O’Brien is Ipswich through and through. She came through the Tractor Girls’ youth ranks, broke into the senior side and helped drive the club to the FA Women’s National League Southern Premier Division title in 2024/25. That campaign underlined her growing influence, while last season brought a step up as she made 12 appearances in Barclays WSL2.

The club view her as far from the finished article. At 22, with England youth honours already behind her, Ipswich believe there is far more to come and have acted to protect a homegrown asset for at least another 12 months.

O’Brien’s attachment to the club is obvious.

“This club has been such a big part of my life since I first joined and I’m delighted to sign a new deal here,” she said after putting pen to paper. “The team showed so much fight and togetherness last season and everyone is so eager to continue that progress and kick on in the year ahead.”

Ipswich are expected to confirm further squad decisions in the coming weeks. Locking in O’Brien is an early statement: the core of their promotion-winning side is not being broken up, it is being backed.
