Liverpool's Pursuit of Bradley Barcola Intensifies Amid Bayern Munich Interest
Liverpool’s pursuit of Bradley Barcola is gathering pace – and Bayern Munich know they are on the outside looking in.
The Premier League club have already moved once in the wide areas, bringing in Spain international Victor Munoz from Osasuna, but that was never going to be the end of the story. Mohamed Salah has gone, the right flank has lost its reference point, and Liverpool’s hierarchy want a headline signing to reshape the attack for the next era.
For weeks, RB Leipzig’s Yan Diomande had been earmarked as that player. Liverpool even went as far as submitting a bid. Then Real Madrid arrived, and the picture changed. Diomande is now expected at the Bernabeu, not Anfield, forcing Liverpool to pivot quickly.
The focus has landed firmly on Barcola.
Barcola keen, Liverpool ready – but PSG hold the key
Barcola’s situation at Paris Saint-Germain has opened a window. The winger is not close to signing a new deal at the Parc des Princes and, crucially, is understood to be open to a move to Anfield.
Transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano outlined the state of play on Friday, describing ongoing contacts between Liverpool, PSG and the player’s camp. The message was clear: the player is on board.
The sticking point is money.
Romano indicated that personal terms and the sporting project will not be an obstacle. Barcola, he said, is “very keen” on Liverpool and excited by the prospect. The issue is the fee PSG will demand and how far Liverpool are prepared to stretch.
The Merseyside club are expected to table a bid. Agreement with Barcola’s side is seen as a formality once the clubs get close. The real battle lies with PSG’s valuation, at a time when the French champions have already lost several attacking players and are juggling other transfer business.
PSG will not be rushed. They want replacements lined up before signing off on another forward’s departure. That need for security could slow the process, even as the direction of travel feels obvious.
Bayern watching – but priced out
Into this landscape stepped Bayern Munich, at least on paper. Reports suggested the Bundesliga giants might rival Liverpool for Barcola, but that prospect has quickly faded.
Sport Bild journalist Christian Falk, writing on his own platform, detailed Bayern’s long-standing admiration for the 23-year-old. The German club have tracked him for the past two summers and checked in again this year, sounding out his plans with his representatives. Barcola remains on their shortlist, and his contract running until 2028 means every year without an extension makes him a more intriguing, and potentially cheaper, target.
Right now, though, the numbers do not work for Bayern.
Falk was blunt: Barcola is too expensive this summer for the Bundesliga champions, even if Liverpool can live in that financial bracket. The English club, he wrote, are “closer” to a deal, driven by the urgency created by Diomande’s impending move to Real Madrid and the gaping space Salah has left behind.
Bayern’s interest is more strategic than immediate. They may need a wide option in the future, particularly with uncertainty around Michael Olise’s long-term situation. Olise is staying put this summer, but next year could bring a decision: new contract, or sale.
Inside Bayern, Barcola is viewed as the number one option to replace Olise if that day comes. That plan only survives, though, if Liverpool fail to get this over the line and Barcola remains in Paris for another season.
If he heads to Anfield now, Falk is adamant: there is “no chance” for Bayern.
So Liverpool stand at a familiar crossroads – big fee, big talent, big expectations. With Salah gone and Diomande Madrid-bound, how long can they afford to wait on PSG’s answer?
