Robert Lewandowski Praises Barcelona’s Signing of Rodri and Reflects on Emotional Camp Nou Farewell

Robert Lewandowski, now with Chicago Fire in MLS, has openly supported Barcelona's decision to bring in Spanish midfielder Rodri from Manchester City. The Polish striker believes Rodri offers the experience and leadership that Hansi Flick's squad desperately needs after his own departure.

Filling the Leadership Gap

After leaving Camp Nou for Chicago, Lewandowski left a void in Barcelona’s dressing room. Flick targeted Rodri as the perfect fit to lead the midfield and provide stability on and off the pitch. Speaking to Radio Marca, Lewandowski emphasized Rodri's tactical acumen and consistency at the highest international levels.

"He’s a player who knows what the team needs, how to play going forward, but also how to contribute a little more in defence," Lewandowski said. "He’s the kind of experienced player I think this team needs. He’s been performing at the highest level not just at the World Cup, but for many years now."

Reflecting on His Time at Barcelona

Lewandowski joined Barcelona in 2022 and spent four memorable seasons there. During his time in Catalonia, he helped secure three La Liga titles and earned the prestigious Pichichi trophy. Despite the success, he felt the need to explore a new chapter in his career.

"It was a very special four years for me in Barcelona," he shared. "But there comes a time when you have to try something different and take a new step, and I’m very happy now."

Adjusting to Life in the United States

The move to MLS meant more than just a change in competition for Lewandowski. It involved adapting to a new culture and lifestyle in Chicago. He acknowledged the challenges but remains positive about the transition.

"It’s normal [to need time], not only because I’m leaving Europe, but also because I’m moving to the United States," he explained.

Keeping Tabs on Barcelona’s Progress

Although Lewandowski is settling into his MLS role, he stays connected to his former club’s journey under Flick. With Rodri now central to their midfield, Barcelona aims to continue their domestic success.

"I’m not a very emotional person, I’m more cold-hearted, but this is a moment when I’ll always be there to support and help FC Barcelona and my former team-mates," he said. "I’m watching what’s happening now and I’m sure they’re going to win a lot of games."
