Lamine Yamal Embraces Barcelona's Drive for Champions League Glory
Lamine Yamal believes it is positive that Barcelona are fixated on winning the Champions League, calling it almost cowardly not to aim for European success under coach Hansi Flick.
The club last lifted the Champions League trophy in 2015 but has reached the quarter-finals and semi-finals during Flick’s tenure. For the 2026-27 season, the tournament remains a major priority.
Yamal’s Thoughts on Ambition
Speaking to Movistar, Yamal shared his views: “I like that people come to the dressing room and believe we can win the Champions League. The problem would be if someone said we will win it no matter what because that can never be certain. But being obsessed with winning it is a good thing.”
He reminded fans of Barcelona's history as one of the greatest teams ever, highlighting their past Champions League victories. “We have the team to do it, and it would be a bit cowardly not to say: this year we are going for the Champions League and not just focusing on the league,” Yamal added.
Still Eyeing La Liga Success
Despite the Champions League obsession, Yamal hasn’t lost sight of domestic glory. He aims for a third consecutive title under Flick’s leadership.
“We’re going for the league too; we can win both the league and the Champions League. We must be a team that holds together through those tough 20 minutes in games,” he said, emphasizing how critical key moments can be to achieving success.
