Karim Adeyemi Joins FC Barcelona Training
The waiting is over. After more than a week in limbo, Karim Adeyemi has at last traded hotel corridors and meeting rooms for the training pitch at Ciutat Esportiva Joan Gamper, taking part in his first session as a FC Barcelona player under Hansi Flick.
The 24-year-old had been in the city since last week, stuck in that strange no-man’s land modern transfers can create: present, but not yet part of it. Administrative details dragged on, the deal was done in everything but official ink, and Adeyemi could only watch as his new teammates trained without him.
On Thursday, that stalemate broke. Barcelona unveiled their new German winger, cameras flashed as he posed with president Joan Laporta, and he spoke to the media for the first time as a Barça footballer. The presentation was the formal welcome. Friday morning was the real one.

For those hoping to see him immediately, the answer will be: not yet. Despite completing that opening workout, Adeyemi is not expected to feature in the behind-closed-doors friendly against CE Europa on Friday evening, as reported by SPORT.
It would be a rush. One day of full training is not the platform on which to throw a new signing into a match, even a low-key one. Flick and his staff appear set to hold him back, prioritising a controlled build-up over instant impact.
So when Barcelona take on the Primera RFEF side later today, Adeyemi is likely to be among the absentees. His name will sit on the same list as Ronald Araújo, Alejandro Balde and Hafiz Gariba, all missing for different reasons but all watched closely as the coaching staff piece together their early-season plans.
England tour offers the real stage
If tonight is too soon, England should be just right. With a trip across the Channel looming, Adeyemi will have a more natural stage to introduce himself in Barça colours when the team face Birmingham City in a pre-season friendly on July 31.
That match offers more than a debut. It offers a first real audition. New club, new coach, new expectations — and an opponent strong enough to test his timing, sharpness and understanding with his teammates.
Days after Birmingham, Barcelona will also meet Preston North End in another behind-closed-doors encounter. Two games, close together, away from the spotlight but intense enough to matter. Two chances for Adeyemi to show where he fits in Flick’s attacking puzzle before the serious business begins.
By then, the German winger should be deeper into his adaptation, better tuned to the runs of his teammates and the pressing triggers demanded from the touchline. For a player with his pace and directness, those details will decide whether he becomes a weapon from day one or a slow-burn project.
Recovery work and individual plans
Friday’s session was not just about the newcomer. While Adeyemi stepped into full group training, the morning also underlined the different timelines within the squad.
Balde continued to work away from the group, still following an individual programme as he moves along his own path back to full involvement. Araújo also trained separately, another key defender being handled carefully as he progresses towards full fitness.
Those images — Adeyemi integrating, Balde and Araújo grafting alone, Gariba sidelined — paint a clear picture of a squad in transition. Flick is trying to knit together new ideas, new signings and returning players, all against the ticking clock of pre-season.
Adeyemi’s first day on the grass does not answer how quickly he will explode in a Barcelona shirt. It does something simpler, and just as important: it finally starts the clock on his Barça career.
