Jamal Musiala Addresses Health Concerns After Collapses

Jamal Musiala has moved to calm growing fears over his health after collapsing twice in four days during Bayern Munich’s pre-season schedule.

The 23-year-old Germany international went down in worrying fashion in friendlies against RB Leipzig and Heidenheim, leaving teammates, staff and supporters visibly shaken as medical personnel rushed to his aid.

Two scares in four days

The latest incident came on Tuesday, August 18, in Bayern’s 4-2 win at Heidenheim. Musiala had just come off the bench when he suddenly appeared disoriented, then slowly sank to the turf.

Players from both sides quickly surrounded him while Bayern’s medical team sprinted on. After a tense few moments, Musiala was able to get back to his feet and walk off the pitch without assistance, though clearly distressed by what had happened.

It felt eerily familiar. Three days earlier, during Bayern’s 3-1 victory over RB Leipzig, he had suffered a similar episode. Again he looked unsteady, again he needed attention, and again the images spread quickly, sparking concern far beyond the stadium.

At first, many pointed to the conditions. The Leipzig game had been played in summer heat, and dehydration or fatigue seemed a logical explanation. But when Musiala went down again in cooler weather at Heidenheim, the narrative changed. This was no simple case of cramp or exhaustion.

Bayern aware of underlying issue

After the final whistle at Heidenheim, Bayern sporting director Max Eberl addressed the situation. He confirmed the club already knew of an underlying issue and had been monitoring it closely.

Eberl stressed that Musiala was conscious, moving around the dressing room as normal after the game and following his usual post-match routine. He also made it clear that the midfielder would speak for himself once he was ready.

That moment came later the same evening.

Musiala explains diagnosis

Musiala took to Instagram to set out the facts and offer reassurance. He opened with the words many Bayern and Germany fans were desperate to hear.

“First things first — I’m doing well,” he wrote.

He went on to explain that specialists have identified the cause of his collapses as temporary, brief and easily treatable absence seizures linked to a neurological dysfunction.

From the outside, he admitted, the episodes look frightening. A player dropping to the ground in the middle of a match always does. But he stressed that his doctors had ruled out any additional health risks.

With neurological clearance in hand, Musiala said he had decided to continue living his life as normal and to keep playing football.

He described himself as “very optimistic” about the situation and used the post to thank Bayern Munich, his family and close friends for their support during a deeply unsettling few days.

For Bayern and Germany, the diagnosis at least brings clarity. The next question is how one of Europe’s brightest talents manages this condition while carrying the weight of expectation for club and country in the season ahead.
