Jack Grealish on Atletico Madrid's Radar: Transfer Speculation Heats Up

Jack Grealish has become the latest big name to land on Atletico Madrid’s radar, with the La Liga club weighing up a surprise move for the Manchester City winger this summer, according to reports in England.

The 30-year-old spent last season trying to reboot his career at Everton. It started well enough: two goals, six assists, flashes of the old swagger. Then came January and a broken foot that cut his campaign short and left his future hanging in the balance.

Atletico, though, have not been put off. Inside the club, there is a clear admiration for Grealish’s work without the ball as much as with it. Haven't been 'left out' so stop talking poo poo thanks," he wrote, cutting through the rumours in typically blunt fashion.

Inside City, the message has been one of calm. New manager Enzo Maresca has publicly underlined that, for now, Grealish remains very much part of his squad.

“At the moment, he is here. He is a Manchester City player. I always said the same. In any club I join, I like to know if there are players that belong to the club,” Maresca said, making it clear he sees it as his responsibility to work with every asset at his disposal.

“It's my duty to try to coach them. Jack is here. I have a good relationship with Jack since I left. Also, we keep in touch, and the reason why is because he has a big heart and he is a very good guy. So this is the reason why and then we see what happens.”

That final line hangs over the whole situation. Atletico are circling, Grealish is rehabbing, Maresca is assessing his squad. For a player who has already carried the weight of a British-record transfer fee once in his career, the next decision could define the rest of his prime years.
