Ivan Toney Charged with Assault in London Nightclub Incident

England striker Ivan Toney has been charged with assault following an incident at a nightclub in central London.

The 28-year-old forward was charged on July 31 with assault occasioning actual bodily harm and is due to appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on September 24. The charge stems from an incident reported to have taken place on December 6, 2025, in Soho, one of the capital’s busiest nightlife districts.

A spokesperson for Toney said the player is aware of the charge and intends to contest it.

"Ivan acknowledges the charge and although he is naturally shocked, he looks forward to being given the opportunity to clear his name in court," the spokesperson said.

The case arrives at a pivotal stage in Toney’s career. Now with Al Ahli in the Saudi Pro League, he forced his way into England’s World Cup squad earlier this summer and played a supporting role in Gareth Southgate’s attack.

Toney came off the bench late in the 2-1 semifinal defeat to Argentina, thrown on as England chased a leveller in the closing stages. His only start of the tournament followed in the third-place playoff against France, a wild 6-4 win in which England salvaged some pride after the heartbreak of missing the final.

He has 10 caps for his country and one international goal, a record that hinted at a growing role on the international stage.

That trajectory now pauses while the legal process unfolds. The next decisive moment for Toney will not come in a penalty area, but in a London courtroom on September 24.
