India Claims Men's Cricket Gold at 2023 Asian Games in Hangzhou
Under the leadership of Ruturaj Gaikwad, India secured the gold medal in men's cricket at the 2023 Asian Games held in Hangzhou. The team entered the competition directly at the quarterfinal stage and showcased dominant performances on their way to victory.
Road to the Gold Medal
India started strong by defeating Nepal comfortably by 23 runs in the quarterfinals. Their momentum continued as they convincingly beat Bangladesh in the semifinals. The final against Afghanistan, however, was disrupted by persistent rain after Afghanistan posted 112 for 5 in 18.2 overs.
With play abandoned due to weather, the tournament's seeding rules were applied, granting India the gold medal as the higher-ranked team before the match began. Afghanistan earned the silver, marking their third consecutive men's cricket final appearance at the Asian Games. Bangladesh took home the bronze medal.

Looking Ahead to 2026 Asian Games
India heads into the 2026 Asian Games in Aichi and Nagoya as the defending men's cricket champions. Both India and Pakistan have been granted direct entry into the quarterfinals. However, a recent warm-up match against hosts Japan raised some concerns after India narrowly escaped with a two-run victory in a rain-shortened game.
During that warm-up, India managed only 32 runs in five overs, with Shreyas Iyer contributing 16 runs before Japan's bowlers dismantled the top order. Despite the challenge, India held on to the win by a slim margin.
