Ilia Topuria Accuses Justin Gaethje Following UFC Defeat

Ilia Topuria broke his silence on social media to accuse Justin Gaethje of foul play after suffering his first career defeat in June. The Spanish-Georgian fighter entered the UFC Freedom 250 as a favorite but was dominated for most of the fight, especially after the second round.

Gaethje inflicted severe damage with a left-right combo in the third round, leaving Topuria badly bloodied. Doctors appeared ready to stop the fight during the break, but referee Marc Goddard overruled them due to concerns about Topuria's vision. Eventually, Topuria’s corner stopped the fight, handing Gaethje a TKO victory in the main event.

Following his win and capture of the UFC lightweight title, Gaethje was celebrated in the Octagon by then-USA President Donald Trump, who was present to mark his 80th birthday and America's 250th anniversary.

Topuria suffered non-displaced fractures to both orbital bones, with his right eye sustaining the worst damage. This injury could increase his risk of serious harm in future fights. Despite this, he announced his medical clearance and readiness to return to competition.

Topuria's Bold Social Media Statement

After months of silence on X, formerly Twitter, the 29-year-old fighter posted: "Final medical tests done. I’m back. To all the clowns who’ve been talking s*** and counting me out this whole time, here I am. Now let’s see who’s got the balls. Thanks to everyone for the support.Next time I’ll make sure they check Justin’s gloves so he doesn’t put anything weird on them. See you soon."

Gaethje quickly responded, dismissing the accusation: "94 days and the best you could come up with is a lame excuse. As terrible as your last performance. Do better, kid."

He later addressed the claim in a video interaction with a fan on X, saying: "People don't believe that. I've done that to everybody's face that I fought. Am I willing to [rematch him]? I just beat the s*** out of him, of course I would. That's not the way to [try and get a rematch]."

Future Prospects

Though Gaethje had ruled out an immediate rematch after their June bout, these recent exchanges make another fight between them seem unlikely. Topuria now appears focused on finding a new opponent as he prepares for his comeback.
