Harry Kane Eyes Possible NFL Career After MLS Move, Bayern Striker Reveals

Harry Kane, captain of Bayern Munich and England, opened up about his plans after football during a press session before the UEFA Nations League match against Spain. The striker hinted that a future transfer to Major League Soccer (MLS) might set the stage for a dual career as an NFL placekicker within five to six years.

Kane’s Vision Beyond Bayern Munich

At 33 years old and fresh from scoring 73 goals last season, Kane is at the peak of his career, also being a strong contender for the 2026 Ballon d'Or. Despite this, he spoke candidly about what lies ahead, suggesting a move to MLS could allow him to combine soccer with American football, specifically as a kicker in the NFL. This idea, once seemingly far-fetched, now carries more weight coming from Kane himself.

Pathway from Soccer to Football

Kane’s reasoning comes down to his expertise in penalty kicks, which he believes shares technique and pressure with NFL placekicking. He referenced Brandon Aubrey, a former MLS player turned Dallas Cowboys kicker known for his accuracy, as proof this crossover can work. Historical examples like ex-Tottenham forward Clive Allen, who played for the London Monarchs in NFL Europe, also back this possibility.

Kane’s precise finishing skills for Tottenham, Bayern, and England, combined with his admiration for NFL legend Tom Brady, add credibility to his ambitions beyond football.

Kane Talks Realism of NFL Ambition

"Maybe if I am in the MLS in the future or somewhere like that it might be a thing where you could connect the two maybe with the seasons," Kane said to reporters, as quoted by The Athletic. "That is something I will try and look at a bit more seriously. It all depends on what happens in my career over the next five or six years, the motivation and what I want to do. The NFL is a lot more realistic than the golf one, let’s put it that way."

He added on the technical side: "I take penalties and it is a very similar pressure, technique. If I did that, in terms of training, I would be closer to that more than any other sport. If I was to do it, it is something I would take seriously. I would take maybe six months to a year of trying to practice before."

Current Focus Remains on Bayern and England

Despite these long-term ideas, Kane stressed his current focus is firmly on football. "If people know I am still on the top of my game here with football, it is not a conversation that would be had," he said. He emphasized wanting to maximize his remaining prime years at Bayern Munich.

This isn’t a completely new thought—back in 2019, Kane mentioned to ESPN the possibility of an NFL switch in 10 to 12 years. With contract talks progressing at Bayern and MLS becoming a more plausible destination late in his career, his two-sport plan feels increasingly connected.
