Hansi Flick Confident as Lamine Yamal Regains Form Ahead of Rayo Vallecano Match

Barcelona coach Hansi Flick has shown strong confidence in the young talent Lamine Yamal, indicating the winger is quickly reclaiming his impressive form. Flick noted that after a challenging period filled with recovery and international matches, Yamal is finally enjoying his football again.

Recovery Journey from Injury and International Duty

Flick wanted to calm concerns about Yamal’s current condition, saying the 19-year-old is nearly back to his best. The start of the season was tough for Yamal due to a serious hamstring injury he suffered in April. Although his debut against Elche was quiet, he displayed moments of brilliance in the recent win over Athletic Bilbao. As Barcelona prepares to face Rayo Vallecano, Flick feels the player’s progress is clear.

"I know everyone is worried about how is Lamine, how is he doing. And of course, look at his situation, he played a World Cup after a huge injury," Flick said. "Now he's coming back after three weeks holiday... and also the first game maybe was not his best game. But I said this, I was very happy that he starts the game and he worked for the team."

Building Match Fitness with Full Game Time

A key part of Yamal's recovery has been playing full matches. Flick highlighted how important it is for Yamal to get 90 minutes on the pitch, which he managed against Athletic Bilbao.

"He played 90 minutes against Bilbao. And for him at the moment, it’s also good to have 90 minutes on the pitch," Flick remarked. "We saw him in some situations really on this top level. And now, you couldn’t see this in the training session today, but I saw it and it was excellent. Everyone loves Lamine and he’s in a good way. And we have to support him and we do that."

Mental Lift for Barcelona’s Rising Star

Flick also touched on Yamal's mental state. After a frustrating performance at Elche, the young player seemed down, sparking doubts about his confidence. But recent days have shown a happier Yamal during training, which Flick believes is key for his creativity and performance.

"Of course, it’s always good when the players are smiling, but it’s not every day the same day. I’m also not smiling every day -- it’s like that," Flick added.

Squad Depth and Striker Situation

While much attention is on Yamal, Flick spoke about the squad, especially the attack. With Raphinha filling in as a makeshift striker due to Barcelona missing out on Julian Alvarez from Atletico Madrid, Flick said he’s content with the current lineup and the efforts made by sporting director Deco to strengthen the squad as the transfer window closes.

"Of course I’m happy with my team, Deco is working on that to strengthen the team. We don’t have pressure," Flick confirmed.
