Florentino Pérez's Pursuit of a Galáctico: Michael Olise Ruled Out
Florentino Pérez has set his sights on another galáctico, but this time one name is firmly off the table: Michael Olise.
The Real Madrid president has already gone public with his intention to launch a €150 million bid for what he called a “superstar on a par with Cristiano Ronaldo,” a signing he considers urgent and transformative. He even put a day on it.
“On Tuesday, I will table a substantial offer to a leading Champions League club for a player who would deliver the biggest transfer in Madrid's history. At least €150 million,” Pérez declared.
The message was clear: Madrid are ready to detonate the market again. The inevitable consequence was a flurry of speculation over who that player might be. Erling Haaland sits at the front of that queue. Others were dragged into the conversation. Olise among them.
That is where the story stops.
Bayern shut the door
Inside Säbener Straße, the response has been blunt. Bayern’s hierarchy has no intention of letting Olise go, and they have been saying so for months.
Back in April, sporting director Max Eberl cut through the noise with a flat refusal when asked about potential suitors.
“No, quite simply: no. We have a long-term project, and Michael is happy here,” he said.
Olise’s contract is tied down until 2029. Bayern consider him central to their rebuild, not a tradeable asset. The winger, for his part, is not agitating for a move and is not currently weighing up a change of scenery, never mind a leap to the Bernabéu.
Rumours of an escape hatch in his deal have swirled since he arrived from Crystal Palace. Eberl moved to kill that narrative last October, when he was challenged on whether Bayern were falling behind their European rivals in the transfer market.
“What I feel is being overlooked in this discussion is that, in Michael Olise, we have signed a professional from Crystal Palace who has a contract with us until 2029 – without a release clause – and is on his way to becoming one of the world's best players,” he told 11Freunde.
No release clause. No invitation to negotiate.
When the subject resurfaced at the end of August, sporting director Christoph Freund stayed tight-lipped.
“As a matter of principle, we never discuss the contents of contracts,” he said, refusing to fuel the speculation but doing nothing to weaken Bayern’s stance of control.
Madrid look elsewhere
In Madrid, the picture around Olise is just as definitive, but for different reasons. Pérez has not only dismissed talk of a deal already being in place for another star – a claim made by rival presidential candidate Enrique Riquelme – he has also drawn a clear line through several names.
Olise is on that list. So are Jeremy Doku and Harry Kane. Any move for a player from arch-rivals FC Barcelona is also ruled out.
The message from the Bernabéu is as sharp as the one from Munich: the next galáctico will not be Michael Olise.
That leaves the spotlight squarely on Haaland as the primary target for Pérez’s record-breaking offer, while Olise remains Bayern’s prized project rather than Madrid’s next headline act.
Bayern’s rising jewel
The reluctance to even entertain talks over Olise is easy to understand when you look at his impact.
Signed from Crystal Palace in the summer for €53 million, he was the only new arrival to make an immediate and sustained difference. In 52 appearances across all competitions, he delivered 22 goals and 31 assists – elite numbers for any attacker, let alone one still only 24.
Those figures explain Bayern’s hard line. They also explain why his name inevitably surfaced when Madrid’s president promised to push the boat out for a player of Ronaldo-level stature.
But for now, the paths diverge.
Madrid are preparing a colossal bid for their chosen superstar. Bayern are building around a winger they believe can become one of the best in the world.
Olise’s future, at least in this window, looks set not in the white of Madrid, but in the red of Germany’s record champions.
