Enzo Fernández Focused on World Cup Amid Chelsea Exit Speculation
Enzo Fernández’s agent has opened the door to a potential Chelsea exit – but insists the midfielder’s mind is locked on one thing only: the World Cup.
Speaking to Marca, representative Uriel Pastore admitted that contingency plans are already being drawn up behind the scenes as speculation swirls around the Argentine international’s future.
“We’re looking at possibilities for him to leave Chelsea,” Pastore said. “But there’s nothing concrete or confirmed with any club.”
That line matters. It underlines the reality of modern football: agents prepare, clubs circle, fans speculate, but deals only move when the player is ready. And right now, Fernández is not thinking about boardrooms or negotiations.
“He’s only thinking about that World Cup,” Pastore stressed.
Argentina are edging towards the round of 16, and the 23-year-old has become a central figure in Lionel Scaloni’s evolving side.
Madrid talk and a life off the pitch
Fernández recently drew attention with comments about Madrid, a city that never drifts far from transfer gossip. Pastore moved quickly to cool any idea that the player’s trips to the Spanish capital meant an imminent move to Real Madrid or anyone else.
“He has many friends there, and he’s very good friends with Julian Alvarez, and in the end, they spend all their free time together there,” Pastore explained. “And I also live in Madrid. Every time he traveled, it was to see me and to sort out work matters, but besides that: who doesn’t like Madrid? I didn’t even play in Madrid. I even live there.”
The message is clear: Madrid is home, not necessarily a hint. Lifestyle, not leverage.
A reshaped midfielder at the heart of Argentina
Away from the noise, Fernández’s performances in Qatar have done the loudest talking. Pastore painted the picture of a player who has reinvented himself within a few short years.
“Enzo has changed his position a lot in recent years,” he said. “He’s played deep or as a midfielder getting forward into the box. Here with the national team, he starts deep, but ultimately he’s the only midfielder who gets forward and is close to Messi. He’s a player who adapts very well to any position.”
That tactical flexibility has been vital. In Argentina’s first two matches, Fernández helped the team “win comfortably,” as Pastore put it, driving play from deep and then arriving near the edge of the area, linking with Lionel Messi in the spaces that decide tournaments.
Pastore is convinced the stage has not overwhelmed him.
“Right now, the player is focused on the national team,” he said. “He’s playing in a World Cup, and they’re very close to reaching the round of 16. He’s doing well, very positive, he’s having a great World Cup.”
So the situation is set. The agent is preparing, the market is watching, Chelsea’s future plans hang in the balance – but Enzo Fernández is chasing something bigger than a transfer: a World Cup run that could redefine the next phase of his career.
