Dominik Szoboszlai Commits to Liverpool Until 2031

Liverpool have moved decisively to lock down one of their brightest stars, with Dominik Szoboszlai signing a new five-year contract that ties him to Anfield until 2031.

The deal ends months of speculation over the Hungary captain’s future and underlines just how central the 25-year-old has become to Liverpool’s plans. Signed from RB Leipzig for £60m in 2023, Szoboszlai didn’t just settle; he took charge. Last season he was the standout performer in red, finishing with 13 goals and 12 assists and driving the team’s attacking play with a relentlessness that quickly made him a crowd favourite.

He has no intention of easing off.

"There's always more to come. I'm never happy," Szoboszlai said after putting pen to paper. "I want to set the example. I want to be an example also for everyone, as much as I can."

Those aren’t empty words. When he arrived on Merseyside, he made a promise. It still burns just as fiercely.

"When I signed, I said I want to win everything. That didn't change for a little moment either. It stayed the same.

"I want to win everything that is possible in this country, also let's say the Champions League. I'm ready to go for it."

This new contract follows prolonged negotiations between Szoboszlai’s camp and Liverpool sporting director Richard Hughes, with talks gathering pace in recent weeks before a final agreement was reached and signed. Both sides are convinced the midfielder’s peak years are still to come – and that they will come in a Liverpool shirt.

Inside the dressing room, his status is already clear. Back in February, Mohamed Salah, who has since left the club, described Szoboszlai as "one of the best players in the world". High praise from a modern Liverpool great, and a measure of how quickly the Hungarian has risen within the squad’s hierarchy.

That hierarchy is shifting. With Andy Robertson leaving Anfield this summer, Liverpool must appoint a new vice-captain. Szoboszlai, already the captain of his national team and now committed long-term, is a powerful candidate to step into that role. He has the armband for Hungary; he increasingly looks like a leader for Liverpool as well.
