Dominik Szoboszlai Signs New 5-Year Contract with Liverpool
Dominik Szoboszlai has tied his future to Liverpool, signing a new five-year contract that runs to 2031 and underlines his status as one of the club’s central pillars for the next era at Anfield.
The 25-year-old arrived from RB Leipzig in 2023 for £60m and wasted no time justifying the fee. Across last season he was Liverpool’s standout performer, driving games from midfield, scoring 13 goals and supplying 12 assists in all competitions. In a campaign of transition, he looked like the constant.
He has never hidden his ambition, and he did not soften it when the ink dried on this deal.
"There's always more to come. I'm never happy," Szoboszlai said. "I want to set the example. I want to be an example also for everyone, as much as I can.
"When I signed, I said I want to win everything. That didn't change for a little moment either. It stayed the same.
"I want to win everything that is possible in this country, also let's say the Champions League. I'm ready to go for it."
Those words fit the way he plays. Relentless off the ball, ruthless on it, and now locked in for the long haul.
The agreement also ends months of speculation around his future. Szoboszlai still had two years left on his previous contract, but talks between his camp and new sporting director Richard Hughes have been running in the background for some time. Negotiations accelerated in recent weeks, and the club moved decisively to secure a player they believe has not yet reached his ceiling.
Liverpool share that belief with some of the game’s biggest names. Back in February, Mohamed Salah – who has since left Anfield at the end of the season – described Szoboszlai as "one of the best players in the world". Coming from a player of Salah’s stature, it sounded less like flattery and more like a passing of the torch.
The timing of the deal matters. This is a summer of change at Liverpool. Salah has gone. Andy Robertson is also leaving, stripping the dressing room of two senior figures and leaving the vice-captaincy vacant. With his future now settled and his influence growing on and off the pitch, Szoboszlai will be a powerful candidate to step into that role.
He already wears the armband for Hungary. At Liverpool, the responsibility is different, the scrutiny harsher, the stakes higher. But the club’s decision to commit to him until 2031 is a clear statement: this is a player they expect not only to decide matches, but to define an era.
The contract is signed. The speculation is over. For Szoboszlai, the challenge he set himself on day one remains untouched – can he really help Liverpool “win everything” from here?
