Cole Palmer’s Manchester United pull isn’t going away – and William Gallas is convinced it ends one way.
The former Chelsea defender believes Palmer is destined to swap Stamford Bridge for Old Trafford. Not this summer. But soon.
Gallas: “He will definitely go to Manchester United”
Palmer, who joined Chelsea from Manchester City in 2023 for £42.5m, has already become the focal point of the London club’s attack. Yet his roots lie 200 miles north. He spent 13 years at City, but grew up a United fan – a detail that continues to fuel speculation about his long-term future.
Speaking to iPredicta, Gallas didn’t bother to dance around the idea.
“I don’t think Cole Palmer will go right now. I don’t think it’s time to go right now,” the ex-France international said.
“He will definitely go to Manchester United in the future if he’s a big fan, if he’s got a dream to play for Man United, he will definitely go there, but right now I don’t think so.
“I think he needs to have one more big season as he did two years ago, before he got his injury problem, then he might move.”
The message is blunt: dominate for Chelsea again, then cash in the childhood dream.
Palmer plays down links – but the noise grows
Earlier this year, reports suggested Palmer was homesick in London and that United were watching closely, ready to exploit any uncertainty. The story fit neatly: boyhood Red, back to Manchester, leading a new era at Old Trafford.
Palmer shut that down. He insisted he is not homesick and dismissed talk of an imminent United switch.
Yet the narrative refuses to die, and Gallas’ comments only add more fuel. For now, Chelsea rely on him as their attacking talisman; United, though, continue to hover in the background as the club he supposedly “must” join at some point.
Santos arrives at Old Trafford – and a message from Palmer
While Palmer stays put, another Chelsea midfielder has already made the journey to Manchester.
Andrey Santos has signed a five-year deal with United, who will pay an initial £48m plus £2m in add-ons. The Brazilian wanted more regular minutes and saw his path blocked at Stamford Bridge. Old Trafford offered opportunity and a fresh start.
Santos revealed that one of the first messages on his phone after the move went through came from Palmer.
“I'm so excited to be here,” Santos said. “So pleased. I got a message from Cole [Palmer], he sent a message because he was born here [Manchester], so he knows everything here.
“He said all the best for you, for your career, you deserve this, a lot of things. So I'm so excited to be here in Manchester with my new teammates.”
It was a small detail, but a telling one: Palmer, the Manchester-born Chelsea star, offering guidance to United’s new Brazilian midfielder about life in his home city.
For now, he does it from a distance. The question Gallas poses, intentionally or not, is simple: how long before Palmer sends that kind of message from inside the Old Trafford dressing room instead?
