Chelsea Agrees €45 Million Deal for Lamine Camara as Enzo Fernandez Nears Manchester City Move

Chelsea have reached a €45 million agreement to bring in midfielder Lamine Camara from Monaco, setting the stage for Enzo Fernandez to complete a major transfer to Premier League rivals Manchester City.

Deal Details and Transfer Progress

The deal for Camara, which includes bonuses, is close to finalization with only the payment schedule left to be arranged, according to journalist Sacha Tavolieri. The Senegalese international will join Chelsea as a direct replacement for Fernandez, who is on the verge of a £120 million move to Manchester City to link up with coach Enzo Maresca. Chelsea outpaced Crystal Palace in securing their top midfield target during this summer’s transfer window.

Fernandez's Departure Amidst Managerial Tensions

Enzo Fernandez has recently fallen out of favor with Chelsea manager Xabi Alonso, who left him out of the squad for the Carabao Cup win over Luton Town. Alonso openly questioned Fernandez’s commitment and readiness before the match, explaining:

We need the players that are in the best situation to play. We need to take everything into consideration – players that are in a good moment, players that are not feeling that energy to play. For me, it is very important they feel this desire to play and to have good preparation.

Alonso revealed he spoke privately with Fernandez before deciding it was best to exclude him from the squad, adding:

We talked and we decided it was better not to be part of the squad. He is a top player.

With relations strained, Chelsea acted quickly to avoid weakening their midfield by securing Camara.

Camara’s Impact and Future Role at Chelsea

Over the last two seasons, Camara has become a dominant presence in Ligue 1, featuring in 75 games for Monaco across all competitions. He contributed six goals and 11 assists, demonstrating his influence in midfield.

Midfield Reshaping Ahead of Premier League Fixtures

Chelsea will soon finalize Fernandez’s exit to Manchester City and unveil Camara as their new midfield addition. Alongside recent signings Valentin Barco and Jordan Henderson, Alonso faces the task of blending these new players into a cohesive unit as the team prepares for upcoming Premier League challenges.
