Charlton Athletic Signs Kenya Midfielder Timothy Ouma on Loan

Charlton Athletic have dipped into the European market to land Kenya international Timothy Ouma on a season-long loan from Slavia Prague, with an option to make the deal permanent.

Nathan Jones has been tracking the 22-year-old for some time, and the Charlton manager made no attempt to hide his enthusiasm after finally getting his man. Speaking to the club’s official channels, Jones described Ouma as “a player that we've monitored for a long, long time” and highlighted both his pedigree and profile.

Ouma arrives as an athletic, technically sharp midfielder, the sort of all-round engine Charlton have been keen to add. Jones believes he brings “real quality” to the middle of the pitch, and his career path backs that up.

Career Path

The Kenyan started out with Nairobi City Stars, emerging from the local scene to earn a move to Swedish top-flight side IF Elfsborg in the summer of 2022. That step into Scandinavia opened the European door, and he didn’t just make up the numbers there. Across three seasons in Sweden, he collected valuable experience, including 13 Europa League appearances that toughened him against continental opposition.

That form persuaded Slavia Prague to bring him in, a club with its own strong European pedigree. Last season, Ouma went back out on loan, this time to Poland with Lech Poznan, where he played his part in a title-winning campaign.

Now comes the next chapter in south London. A young international with league and European minutes behind him, a manager who has wanted him “for a long, long time,” and an option to buy if the fit is right.

For Charlton, this isn’t just a short-term patch. It’s a calculated gamble that Ouma’s upward curve can continue in red and white.
