The outgoing president of Eldense, Carolina Holguin, has made a heartfelt plea to Lionel Messi after the legendary footballer completed his purchase of the Spanish second-division club. Holguin, who has led the team through challenging times, urged Messi to honour the club's 105-year-old legacy and inspire the local community.
Holguin's Departure Marks a New Era
After Messi finalized the takeover by acquiring shares from Pascual Perez in October 2025, Holguin confirmed her exit from the Estadio Municipal Nuevo Pepico Amat. During her tenure, she played a key role in helping the men's first team return to La Liga and also boosted the women's squad and youth academy. She encouraged fans to warmly welcome Messi from day one as he steps into his new role.
Confidence in Messi's Leadership
"Handing over control of this club to him is a huge source of pride for me and brings peace of mind knowing I leave it in capable hands," Holguin stated in her official farewell message.
She added a direct appeal: "Take care of it, respect what it means to its people, and above all, bring big dreams to Elda."

Holguin acknowledged that her time at Eldense involved making tough and sometimes unpopular decisions aimed at stabilizing the club financially. Despite these difficulties, she expressed optimism about the club’s future under Messi’s ownership, calling him the greatest living football legend.
