Brazil Dominates Scotland 3-0 to Top Group C

Brazil cruised past Scotland 3-0 to seal top spot in Group C, and at the heart of it all, again, was Gabriel Magalhaes – 90 minutes in the bank, a second straight clean sheet, and a back line that barely flinched.

This was businesslike from Carlo Ancelotti’s side. Ruthless when Scotland blinked. Calm when they tried to bite back.

Vinicius punishes Scottish error

Brazil didn’t need long to find their rhythm. The opener came from a Scottish mistake that was punished with typical Brazilian coldness.

Defender Scott McKenna misjudged his play out from the back and gifted the ball straight to Bournemouth forward Rayan. One touch, head up, and the pass was simple: square to Vinicius Junior. The Real Madrid star tapped in from close range, a routine finish born from a calamitous error.

From there, Brazil dictated. Gabriel marshalled the defence, stepping out aggressively, cutting off angles, and making sure Scotland’s forays forward died on the edge of his territory. Any hint of Scottish momentum ran straight into a green-and-yellow wall.

Just when Scotland looked like they might escape to the break only one down, Brazil struck again.

Deep into first-half stoppage time, Bruno Guimaraes drifted into space and delivered a teasing cross to the back post. Vinicius timed his run perfectly and rose to meet it, steering his header beyond the keeper. Two for Vinicius, two for Brazil, and a Scottish side suddenly staring at a mountain.

Scotland roll the dice, Brazil shut the door

Chasing the game, Scotland turned to a familiar face. Former Gunner Kieran Tierney came on as they searched for a way back, offering drive and urgency down the flank.

It didn’t matter.

Brazil simply tightened their grip. The five-time World Cup winners slowed the tempo when they wanted, then snapped forward with speed when space appeared. The pressure eventually told again on the hour.

A sweeping move ended with Matheus Cunha in the right place at the right time, tapping home from close range to make it 3-0 and remove any doubt about the result. By then, the contest was effectively over; the scoreline merely caught up with the pattern of the game.

Six minutes later, there was another Arsenal connection on the pitch as Gabriel Martinelli entered for the final half hour. With qualification already secure and top spot within reach, Brazil managed the closing stages with authority, preserving both their lead and Gabriel Magalhaes’ clean sheet.

They finished the group on top, edging it on goal difference.

Path cleared for knockout charge

Topping Group C sets Brazil on a collision course with the runner-up from Group F, currently Japan. The picture will sharpen tonight when Japan, featuring former Gunner Takehiro Tomiyasu, face Viktor Gyokeres’ Sweden at the Dallas Stadium.

The stakes are clear: the winner of that clash is likely to earn a date with the Selecao on Monday, June 29, at 6pm UK time.

Elsewhere, two more Arsenal names will cross paths under the World Cup lights. Kai Havertz’s Germany meet Piero Hincapie’s Ecuador at the New York New Jersey Stadium in a game with very different pressures on each side.

Germany have already locked up top spot in Group E. Ecuador, on just one point from two matches, need nothing less than a win to keep their hopes of reaching the round of 32 alive.

Brazil, meanwhile, move on with their defence anchored, their forwards in stride, and their route through the tournament starting to take shape.
