Barcelona Signs Belgian Prodigy Jesse Bisiwu for Future Success
Barcelona have dipped back into the youth market with conviction, sealing the signing of teenage winger Jesse Bisiwu from Club Brugge in a deal reported at 8.5 million euros.
The 18-year-old Belgian has signed a contract at Camp Nou until 30 June 2031, a statement from the club confirmed, underlining just how firmly the Spanish champions believe in his ceiling.
He becomes the latest piece in a summer rebuilt around speed and directness in wide areas, following the arrivals of Anthony Gordon and Karim Adeyemi. Barcelona are clearly rearming the flanks for the next era — and Bisiwu is the long play.
A standout from Belgium’s new wave
Born on 22 January 2008, Bisiwu arrives as one of the most highly regarded talents in Belgian football. A regular in Belgium’s youth national teams, he made his name on the continental stage at the 2025 UEFA European Under-17 Championship, where he drove his country to the semi-finals and earned a place in the tournament’s Best XI.
Barcelona’s own description of him is telling: a winger with “a great future ahead” built on pace, strength and dribbling. In other words, the kind of profile that can unbalance a game in a single surge.
He started out at OH Leuven before moving to Club Brugge’s academy in 2020, climbing quickly through the ranks. Across the last two seasons he featured 14 times in the UEFA Youth League, scoring three goals and showcasing the kind of one‑v‑one threat that tends to catch the eye of elite scouts.
Senior minutes before the big leap
Bisiwu never broke into Club Brugge’s first team, but he did not arrive in Barcelona untouched by senior football.
At just 15, he debuted in the Belgian Second Division with Club NXT, Brugge’s reserve side, in 2023. By the time the deal to Spain was agreed, he had already amassed 36 appearances at that level — a valuable grounding in the physical and tactical demands of the professional game.
Barcelona are expected to start him with their reserve side as he adjusts to a new country, a new league and the tactical demands that come with the shirt. The plan is clear: development first, spectacle later.
A new Belgian in blaugrana
With this move, Bisiwu steps into a small but intriguing lineage of Belgians at Barcelona, following defender Thomas Vermaelen and winger Fernand Goyvaerts.
They arrived at Camp Nou at very different stages of their careers. Bisiwu comes at the very beginning of his, with eight years on his contract and the time and space to grow.
