Barcelona Nears Deal for Karim Adeyemi
Barcelona are closing in on Karim Adeyemi, and this time it feels real.
The German forward has reached a full agreement with the Catalan club on contract length and salary, according to Fabrizio Romano. The plan is clear: a five-year deal, a long-term bet on a player who only turns 25 next season and still sees his future painted in Blaugrana.
Adeyemi pushes for his Barça dream
Adeyemi has done his part. He has told Borussia Dortmund he wants them to negotiate only with Barcelona and to move quickly. No Premier League auction, no drawn-out saga. Just one preferred destination.
This is not a sudden whim. Adeyemi has spoken publicly in the past about his admiration for Barcelona and his desire to wear their shirt. To get closer to that dream, he placed his career in the hands of Jorge Mendes, the Portuguese super-agent who has become a familiar operator around the Camp Nou offices.
Mendes tried to engineer this move last summer. The deal collapsed under the weight of Barcelona’s salary cap issues and doubts over Adeyemi’s form. The timing was wrong, the numbers didn’t work, and the player stayed in Dortmund.
Now the landscape has shifted. Barcelona have more room to manoeuvre, Adeyemi’s situation in Germany has hardened, and both sides are convinced the transfer can finally happen. The forward is pushing hard not to let the opportunity slip away a second time.
Dortmund’s stance hardens – and then softens
The turning point came in February. Adeyemi informed Dortmund he would not renew his contract, which runs until 2027. The club had put a long-term extension on the table, with gradual salary increases built in. It wasn’t enough.
With no agreement in sight, Dortmund pulled the offer this spring and quietly put him on the market, waiting for serious bids. The expectation inside the club was that the Premier League would come calling. That rush never arrived.
The lack of heavyweight offers from England opened a door Mendes was ready to walk through. With no bidding war to inflate the price or distract the player, Barcelona were able to step forward as the clear and preferred option.
Barça hold the cards
That clarity has shifted the power balance. Dortmund need to sell a player who has no intention of renewing. Adeyemi, for his part, has made it clear Barcelona is the only move he wants.
On paper, Dortmund value the winger at around €40 million. In reality, the final figure may come in lower, especially if Barcelona include one or more players in the package. Every week that passes without a deal chips away at Dortmund’s leverage and, potentially, at Adeyemi’s market value.
Barcelona sense that. They have already submitted an initial offer and there is growing optimism that an agreement can be wrapped up swiftly. From their perspective, Adeyemi is not just a signing for today but a piece of long-term planning.
At 24, he fits the age profile of a squad being rebuilt with an eye on the next five years rather than the next five months. The proposed contract length allows Barcelona to spread the transfer fee across several seasons, easing the impact on their fragile accounts.
Mendes has helped shape a structure that keeps Adeyemi’s wages within the club’s tight salary limits. For a board still walking a financial tightrope, that balance between sporting ambition and economic realism matters as much as any scouting report.
One obstacle remains: a final agreement between Barcelona and Borussia Dortmund. With the player pushing, the agent steering, and time working against the German club, the question now is not whether all sides will find common ground – but how long Dortmund can hold out before the inevitable compromise arrives.
