So far, the answer from the red-and-white offices has been blunt.
Atlético have already turned down a 100 million euro offer from Barcelona. They point to Álvarez’s release clause, which sits at around 500 million, as the only figure that truly moves them. For a club still wrestling with its finances, Barça cannot and will not go that high. Yet they are not walking away either.

For now, though, Álvarez remains the primary target. Inside Barça, the feeling persists that the operation is still feasible, still alive, still worth the political and financial effort.
This week, they insist, will be decisive. Not in closing the deal – that would be ambitious – but in discovering whether the dream of seeing Julián Álvarez leading the line at Spotify Camp Nou is a genuine possibility, or just another name that slips away into the market’s shadows.
