Barcelona's Formal Bid for Adeyemi as Dortmund's Demands Shift
Karim Adeyemi is back on Barcelona’s radar – and this time, the timing might finally suit everyone involved.
The Borussia Dortmund forward has been the subject of Jorge Mendes’ pitches to Barça for more than one summer, but the Catalan club’s financial straitjacket repeatedly killed the idea before it could advance. Now the landscape looks different. Operating under La Liga’s 1:1 rule and with some room to manoeuvre, Barcelona have stepped forward with a formal offer.
Barça test Dortmund’s resolve
According to Sky Germany, relayed by SPORT, Barcelona have tabled an opening bid: €20 million up front, plus a sizeable sell-on percentage for any future transfer. It is not the kind of number that makes a Bundesliga club fold instantly, but it is a clear signal of intent.
Inside the club, Adeyemi has been earmarked as the more experienced wide option to go alongside, not instead of, Roony Bardghji. The plan is to layer potential: a raw, high-ceiling youngster and a 22-year-old who has already lived the pressure of Dortmund and Champions League nights.
Barcelona sense an opportunity. Dortmund have struggled to drum up a market for Adeyemi and have gradually trimmed their demands as the window has dragged on. Yet the gap remains sizeable.
A €40m valuation meets a €20m offer
Dortmund still value Adeyemi at around €40 million. Barcelona think that figure belongs to a different context – one where the player had more than a year left on his contract and came off a starring season.
That is not the current reality.
Adeyemi has just 12 months remaining on his deal. He was not a guaranteed starter last season, and his form over the last two campaigns has swung between flashes of his explosive best and long, frustrating lulls. All of it chips away at Dortmund’s leverage.
The pressure is building in Germany. Adeyemi has already reached an agreement with Barcelona on personal terms, tightening the noose on Dortmund’s negotiating position. They can try to hold the line at €40 million, but every day that passes without a sale makes that stance harder to defend.
Player swaps on the table
With the two clubs far apart on cash alone, the conversation has naturally drifted toward player exchanges.
One name sits right at the intersection of both squads’ needs and ambitions: Roony Bardghji. The young winger wants to leave Barcelona in search of regular minutes and a platform at a club that fights for major trophies. Dortmund fits that profile perfectly and have been linked with him earlier in the summer.
A deal that sends Adeyemi to Barcelona and Bardghji the other way would tick a lot of boxes, especially if it trims the fee Barça need to commit in pure cash.
Dortmund also have long-standing admiration for Guille Fernández, the attacking midfielder from Barça Atletic, another client of Mendes. They sounded out his situation in January but couldn’t find common ground with Barcelona. His name has not disappeared from their notebooks.
All of this creates a familiar modern transfer puzzle: cash plus prospects, sell-on clauses, and a shrinking contract clock in the background.
Barcelona have made their move. Dortmund know they are running out of time. The only question now is whether they cling to their €40 million stance, or accept that this market – and Adeyemi’s situation – is about to dictate a very different price.
