Fresh from a Premier League title and a run to the Champions League final, the London side are now pushing for a transfer double that would have been unthinkable a few years ago: Vinicius Junior from Real Madrid and Bruno Guimaraes from Newcastle United.

The headline name is Vinicius Junior. Out of contract at Real Madrid in the summer of 2027, the Brazil winger is locked in a stand-off with the Spanish giants over a new deal, with salary expectations on both sides pulling in different directions.
Arsenal sense opportunity.
An agreement in principle on personal terms is now in place between Vinicius and the English champions, according to well-followed account HandofArsenal, which posted on July 31 that the player has accepted the framework of a contract. His representatives at Roc Nation are expected to carry that position into talks with Madrid, armed with what has been described as a “monstrous offer” from Arsenal.
The message is clear: the champions of England are ready to pay superstar money and build around him.
Madrid, though, face a brutal calculation. If Vinicius refuses to extend and drifts into the final year of his deal, they risk losing one of their marquee players for nothing at the end of the 2026/27 season. For a club that prides itself on controlling the market, that scenario would sting.
Arsenal, by contrast, are operating from a position of strength. Vinicius has just come off a starring role for Brazil at the 2026 World Cup, his stock as high as it has ever been, and Mikel Arteta is described as “smitten” with the idea of dropping the Brazilian into his already electric attack at the Emirates Stadium.
If Madrid open the door, Arsenal are ready to walk straight through it.
Bruno Guimaraes: the midfield cornerstone
While the Vinicius pursuit grabs the glamour, the Bruno Guimaraes chase might be even more revealing about Arsenal’s long-term plan.
The Newcastle United midfielder has already agreed personal terms with Arsenal. The project has been sold, the role has been explained, and Bruno is said to be all in. The Brazilian views Arsenal as the “perfect project” and wants the move, according to Fabrizio Romano.
There were suggestions an agreement in principle between Arsenal and Newcastle was already in place, but Romano has pushed back on that. On his YouTube channel, he outlined the current state of play: Arsenal remain in direct contact with Bruno’s camp, Newcastle are open to talks, and both clubs are expected to resume negotiations following Eddie Howe’s departure from St James’ Park.
Romano’s description leaves little doubt about the player’s stance. Bruno wants Arsenal. Arsenal want Bruno. Newcastle, without Howe and under pressure to balance ambition with financial reality, may finally have to confront the idea of cashing in on their midfield leader.
The expectation is that discussions could accelerate at any time. Arsenal have had an agreement with the player “for some time” and are simply waiting for the right conditions to get a deal over the line.
A new kind of Arsenal
Put Vinicius and Bruno in the same window and the picture sharpens.
This is a club no longer content with clever, incremental upgrades.
