Arsenal have moved Jules Kounde to the top of their defensive shortlist, sensing a rare opening around a player who, not long ago, looked nailed to Barcelona’s future.

Saliba out, Timber struggling
William Saliba’s back injury, with no clear return date, has ripped a hole straight through Arsenal’s defensive core. Jurrien Timber, still wrestling with a chronic groin problem, cannot be relied upon for the relentless rhythm of a Premier League and Champions League campaign.
