Arsenal's Dream Team: Limpar's Vision After Guardiola and Klopp
Anders Limpar has seen enough Premier League eras to know when the landscape changes. For the former Arsenal winger, this is one of those moments.
With Pep Guardiola and Jurgen Klopp gone from the English game, Limpar believes the door has swung open for Arsenal to turn a title win into something far more imposing: a period of dominance.
“The title race will be between Arsenal, Manchester City and Manchester United,” he told SveaCasino, sketching out his vision of the new hierarchy. Chelsea, he expects, will be back in the conversation under Xabi Alonso, while Tottenham and one of Brighton or Liverpool, in his eyes, will round out the top six.
But his focus is clear. This, he argues, is Arsenal’s time to seize.
A league without Pep and Klopp
Limpar does not dance around the point. Arsenal, he insists, should feel emboldened by the departures of two of the Premier League’s great modern architects.
“Arsenal have a very good chance to win the Premier League again because I can’t see a bigger threat to them with Pep Guardiola and Jurgen Klopp no longer in the league,” he said. The message is simple: no excuses, no hiding. “They can be clever and take it one game at a time to make sure they defend their title.”
It’s not just about a weaker field. It’s about a champion behaving like one.
From contenders to ‘unstoppable’
Arsenal’s squad already looks loaded, but Limpar is not calling for fine-tuning. He is calling for a statement.
He wants three world-class arrivals – Bruno Guimaraes, Julian Alvarez and Vinicius Junior – to turn Mikel Arteta’s side from champions into a juggernaut.
“A club like Arsenal always need good players but to bring in Bruno Guimaraes, Julian Alvarez, Vinicius Jr,” he said, before adding another name into the mix. “You also have a player in Christos Tzolis, who already looks world class. With these players, Arsenal can dominate the Premier League and the Champions League for the next three years.”
Dominate. Not just compete. Not just stay in the race. Dominate at home and in Europe.
Limpar accepts that Tzolis, despite his talent, may not see the minutes his ability deserves. “I don’t think Tzolis is going to play all that much, which will be unfortunate,” he admitted, but he sees that as the price of building a super-squad. “Arsenal need to buy all the good players they can.”
Before the summer, Limpar felt Arsenal needed “two or three players” simply to refresh and remain among the elite. Now, with business already done and more potentially to come, his tone shifts. “With the signings they’ve already made, Mikel Arteta is going to be running the show.”
Depth, risk and the front-line question
Limpar’s vision is not just star-chasing. It’s rooted in hard lessons from last season.
“Down the right, Arsenal have Noni Madueke and Bukayo Saka. We already have Viktor Gyokeres and Kai Havertz up front,” he said, listing the weapons already in Arteta’s armoury. Then comes the warning. “But what if Kai Havertz got injured again? We saw Viktor Gyokeres was in and out of form last season. Bukayo Saka still isn’t all that he can be.”
That is where he sees the next leap. Not just quality, but layers of it.
If Arsenal push for Vinicius, Bruno Guimaraes and Julian Alvarez, Limpar believes they don’t just add options; they lock in a core for years.
“If Arsenal bring in Vinicius, Bruno Guimaraes and Julian Alvarez to add to Christos Tzolis, those are the kind of players you keep for the long run,” he said. In his mind, that takes Arteta to a different level of control. “Arsenal start looking like the dream team with Mikel Arteta in a position where he can pick whatever combination he wants.”
The opportunity, as Limpar sees it, is glaring. A league without Guardiola and Klopp. A title already in the cabinet. A manager trusted, a squad strong, and a transfer window still open.
Now the question hangs over north London: will Arsenal simply defend their crown, or will they build the kind of side that makes everyone else feel they are playing for second place?
