Ajax Targets Roony Bardghji as Godts Deal with PSG Awaits
AFC Ajax are positioning themselves to pounce for FC Barcelona winger Roony Bardghji – but only if Paris Saint-Germain come back with the money they really want for Mika Godts.
The Dutch club are braced for a frantic finish to the window. They have already opened one line of business with Barcelona by taking Marc-Andre ter Stegen on loan, and another deal between the two clubs could follow if the Godts domino finally falls.
Godts at the heart of Ajax’s plan
For now, everything in Amsterdam revolves around Godts. PSG have already tested Ajax’s resolve with a €50 million offer, which was knocked back as the Eredivisie side hold out for a higher fee.
The Belgian winger, however, has done his part. Personal terms with the French champions are agreed, leaving the clubs haggling over the number that unlocks Ajax’s market.
Once that happens, Ajax intend to push hard. The plan is clear: cash in on Godts, then immediately recycle that money into a squad refresh. Noa Lang, currently at Napoli, remains the priority target. His name has been at the top of Ajax’s list for weeks.
But Roony Bardghji is now firmly in the conversation.
Ajax had previously cooled their interest because Barcelona insisted on a permanent sale rather than a loan, a stance that did not fit the Dutch club’s financial reality at the time. A major fee from Godts, though, would change the equation. Suddenly, what looked like a non-starter begins to feel possible.
Another Barça youngster is also on Ajax’s radar. Jofre Torrents is still expected to arrive in Amsterdam on loan, underlining the growing transfer corridor between the two clubs.
Barcelona push for permanent Bardghji exit
Bardghji’s future is moving towards a conclusion. Those around the Swedish winger expect clarity in the coming days.
The player’s preference is straightforward: a loan. He wants to leave now, play regularly, and come back to Barcelona next season stronger and more established.
The club see it differently. Barcelona are driving for a permanent sale, but with a buy-back clause attached. That structure would allow them to bank an immediate profit on a player they signed for around €3 million, while still keeping a long-term handle on his career.
On the pitch, Bardghji has done everything asked of him. He has been one of Barcelona’s standout performers in pre-season, catching the eye with his freshness and direct attacking play. Hansi Flick is understood to be impressed.
The problem is the depth chart. With Karim Adeyemi and Anthony Gordon arriving to bolster the wide positions, Flick has been blunt: regular minutes will be scarce. For a 19-year-old winger trying to launch his career, the bench is not a project.
So club and player are aligned on one key point – he has to go somewhere he will play.
His representatives are now combing through options that tick two boxes: guaranteed, or at least significant, playing time and a deal structure that respects Barcelona’s wish for a permanent transfer with a buy-back option.
Europe lines up – but Barca won’t bend
Interest is not the issue. The shape of the deal is.
Several Premier League clubs continue to track Bardghji, intrigued by his upside and pre-season form. None of them, though, have yet put forward a proposal that satisfies Barcelona’s insistence on retaining future control via a buy-back clause.
In France, Marseille remain in the frame. They have kept their interest warm and could yet move if their own outgoing business opens room in the squad and budget.
Spain is also a live possibility. A Champions League club could step in if other transfers create space in their attacking unit, with Bardghji viewed as a ready-made rotation option who can grow into a starting role.
Barcelona have already had chances to cash in earlier this summer. They chose to wait. So did Bardghji. Both sides have been holding out for what they consider the right project – not just the biggest fee or the fastest exit.
Now Ajax lurk, waiting on PSG and the Godts deal to break open their window. If that sale lands at the number Ajax want, the Dutch giants will have the resources to test Barcelona’s resolve on Bardghji properly.
Then the question becomes simple: who blinks first – the club that wants control, or the player who just wants to play?
