Florentino Pérez Targets Vitinha Ahead of Election
Florentino Pérez is edging towards another election, and once again the ballot box may be overshadowed by the transfer market.
This time, the name at the centre of the storm is Vitinha.
Vitinha, the election weapon
According to Cadena SER, the Portuguese midfielder has surged to the top of Pérez’s wish list as the headline signing he wants to unveil before Sunday’s Real Madrid presidential vote. The message is clear: a statement player, a statement fee, and a statement of power.
Vitinha has grown into one of PSG’s most influential figures, a core part of their midfield and still tied to a contract that runs for another three years. That alone makes any move complicated. PSG do not sell key players easily, and certainly not cheaply.
But the noise around the Santiago Bernabéu is getting louder. Pérez, determined to turn the election into a formality, is said to be ready to push his chips to the centre of the table.
€150m on the table
On Thursday evening, Pérez claimed in an interview that he will soon announce a €150 million bid for a star signing. He publicly ruled out Harry Kane, Erling Haaland and Michael Olise, stripping away some of the obvious names and sharpening the focus on the mystery target.
Spanish journalist Pacojo Delgado has no doubts about who that target is. For him, Vitinha is the man in the president’s sights, the player whose arrival would all but end the presidential race before a single vote is cast.
“If Florentino wants to settle the elections, the announcement of Vitinha would be the final blow. A knockout without even reaching Sunday,” Delgado said, underlining how decisive such a move could be in the political battle at Madrid.
The figure involved would place Vitinha among the most expensive signings in the club’s history, right in line with the galáctico tradition Pérez has built his presidency on. This is not squad padding. This is a flagship move.
Mourinho, Mendes and the Bernabéu project
The pursuit of Vitinha does not stand alone. It fits into a broader plan that circles around one name: José Mourinho.
Mourinho is widely expected to return to Real Madrid, and Vitinha is being viewed as a central piece in a new-look midfield under his compatriot. A player who can dictate play, set the tempo, and carry the tactical weight of a team built in Mourinho’s image.
Here, another powerful figure steps into the frame: Jorge Mendes.
Delgado highlighted the potential influence of the Portuguese super-agent in smoothing the path between PSG and Madrid. Mendes has long-standing ties with Mourinho and with the club’s hierarchy, and that network could prove decisive if negotiations reach a critical point.
“Do you really think Jorge Mendes will not make his best player available to Jose Mourinho if it is possible?” Delgado asked, pointing directly at the triangle that could shape Madrid’s next era: president, coach, agent.
Konaté, Dumfries and a squad in motion
Vitinha may be the headline, but he is not the only piece being moved on the board.
Reports claim Madrid have already acted to reinforce other areas of the squad. Ibrahima Konaté is said to be set to join on a free transfer, a major defensive addition at no fee. On the flanks, Denzel Dumfries is expected to arrive after the club triggered his €20 million release clause, adding power and depth on the right side.
These moves sketch out a clear pattern: this is not a minor refresh. It is a structural rebuild.
Yet everything still comes back to PSG and the leverage they hold. Vitinha remains a key figure in Paris, and any agreement would hinge on Madrid’s ability to convince the French club to part with him at a price they can live with.
The money, it seems, is ready. The political timing is perfect. The agent is in position.
Now the question is simple: will PSG open the door in time for Pérez to turn Sunday’s election into little more than a coronation?
