Brenden Aaronson Marries Before World Cup Training
FAYETTEVILLE, Ga. — The U.S. World Cup squad went through its paces on Friday without one of its most industrious midfielders. This time, no one complained. Brenden Aaronson had a different kind of commitment: he was getting married.
The Leeds United player left camp after Thursday’s session to marry longtime girlfriend Milana D’Ambra, daughter of Saint Joseph’s men’s soccer coach Don D’Ambra. While his teammates stretched, pressed, and drilled under the Georgia sun, Aaronson was trading vows.
There was no drama over his absence. The plan was agreed well in advance, and the 25-year-old is scheduled to rejoin the group in time for training on Saturday, dropping straight back into the rhythm of a national team preparing for the game’s biggest stage.
Aaronson’s story has always been rooted in family and football, and the two collided again this week. He comes from Medford, New Jersey, a town that has quietly become a pipeline for American talent through the Aaronson clan alone. His younger brother, Paxten, is carving out his own path with the Colorado Rapids in Major League Soccer. Their sister, Jaden, featured for Villanova as a freshman last fall. Their father, Rusty, oversees development at Real Futbol Academy in Medford as sporting director, shaping the next wave while watching his own children climb.
So when Aaronson stepped away from camp, it fit a pattern inside this U.S. setup. The program has shown it can bend, occasionally, for life’s landmark moments. Christian Pulisic received similar leeway eight years ago, when coaches allowed him to skip training to attend his Hershey High School prom on May 27, 2016, at the Hershey Hotel in Pennsylvania. He flew back in time to feature the next day in a Copa America match against Bolivia in Kansas City, Kansas.
This time it was Aaronson’s turn to balance real life and the relentless demands of elite football. One day in a suit, the next back in U.S. colors, chasing another chance on the world stage.
